About Us

Dr. Fred V. Guthrie, Sr. began practicing dentistry in Bristol in 1959. He is a graduate of Dobyns- Bennett High school and then proceeded to attend the University of Tennessee for his undergraduate. He received his dental degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1958. Dr. Fred opened his own dental practice here in Bristol in 1959 and built our current dental office in 1980. His son, Dr. Rick, joined him in practice in 1987 and his grandson, Dr. Van, joined in 2016.

Dr. Fred is an active lifetime member in the American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, First District Dental Society. He is also an active member and former president of the East Tennessee Academy of Dental Practice Administration. He is an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dr. Fred resides in Bluff City. He has 4 children, Dr. Rick Guthrie, Elisa Gastineau, RDH, Barbara Duncan, CPA, and Brenda Inman, and 8 grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with family friends and all UT sports.

Dr. Frederick V. “Rick” Guthrie Jr., is a Bristol native. He is a graduate of Sullivan East High School, received his B.S. from the University of Tennessee, and earned his dental degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1987. He has served the dental needs of the Bristol area for thirty years in private practice along with his father, Fred Guthrie, Sr., and now his son, Van Guthrie III, who recently graduated from the UT College of Dentistry and joined the practice.

At the state level, Dr. Guthrie served on numerous councils and committees and six years as the First District Trustee. Dr. Guthrie was most recently serving as the president of the Tennessee Dental Association through 2016-2017. Dr. Guthrie received the TDA’s most esteemed annual award, the Fellowship Award, in 2000. Nationally, Dr. Guthrie is a member of the American Dental Association, Christian Medical and Dental Association, with fellowships in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy.  In addition to the TDA, Dr. Guthrie is a member of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry Alumni Board, UT President Advisory Council and Delta Dental of TN Board.

Dr. Guthrie also serves the Healing Hands Health Clinic of Bristol as a charter member and recent facilitator of the UT student rotation partnership. He active in his church Addilynn Memorial UMC, and various community organizations. One of his passions is the relationship with the dental students and the New Dentist Committee of the TDA.

He is a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, where he has served as Scout Master for many years and previously served as the East Tennessee Sequoyah Council President.

Rick and his wife, Cindy, reside in Bluff City, TN and are proud of their three children, Dr. Rachel Guthrie, Dr. Van Guthrie, and Ms. Sarah Guthrie, JD, CPA. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends and the outdoors.

Dr. Frederick “Van” Guthrie, III is a third-generation dentist who grew up watching his grandfather, Dr. Fred, and his father, Dr. Rick, working in the dental office. He is a graduate of Tennessee High School. He received his undergraduate B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee. He went on to graduate from University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis, TN.

After dental school graduation he moved back to Northeast Tennessee and currently resides in Bristol, TN. He is enjoying working in the dental office alongside his grandfather and father. Dr. Van rotates through our Bristol and Johnson City office, Boones Creek Dentistry.

Dr. Van is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association, as well the First District Dental Society. He volunteers for Believe in Bristol and is an active board member. He also volunteers his time at Healing Hands Health Center. Dr. Van is also an active member of Addilynn United Methodist Church.

Dr. Van and his wife, Sarah, reside in Bristol, TN with their dog Nala. When Dr. Van is not working he enjoys spending time with family and friends. He enjoys traveling, hiking, running, golfing, snow skiing, and spending time on the lake.

Dr. Tyler Davis is a native of southwest Virginia. He obtained his B.S. in Biology from the University of Virginia at Wise. After his undergraduate education, he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in Richmond, Virginia.  There he was a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. After graduation, he then attended a two-year residency in general practice dentistry at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

He now resides in Johnson City and loves getting to enjoy everything northeast Tennessee has to offer! He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association, the First District Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Davis enjoys spending time in the outdoors hiking, golfing and spending time with friends and family

Margaret Beeler has been a dental hygienist since graduating from East Tennessee State University in 1982.  She has been working with Guthrie Dentistry since 2005. The favorite part of her job is educating patients on optimum dental health. Margaret finds witnessing her patients make dental changes and how it positively affects their overall health extremely rewarding.

In her spare time, Margaret enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her two daughters and their husbands.  She lives in Kingsport.

Mary Anne Maples has been a dental hygienist since 1982 and proudly working in this office since 2013. Mary Anne is a graduate of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School and East Tennessee State University. She strives to provide patients with thorough gentle dental cleanings and helping them maintain a great smile with good oral hygiene habits.

Mary Anne and her husband Dave have made Bristol their home since 1981. They have two grown children, Kelly and David. Mary Anne enjoys hiking, biking, gardening and going to the beach

Ashley came to join our team in 2021 after 15 years with Dr Vance. She was born and raised in Richlands, VA,but lives here in Bristol with her husband and two children. As a busy mom, she enjoys spending time with her family, watching her kids be involved in sports, and all things health and beauty.

Julie Botts is a graduate of East Tennessee State University class of 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene.  She has been working at Guthrie dentistry since the fall of 2015.  Julie has a passion for helping others, and her favorite part of her job is encouraging dental health and helping to provide healthy smiles!

Julie is from Elizabethton and currently resides in Johnson City. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and anything to do with the outdoors whether it be hiking, kayaking, running or playing tennis.

Cindy Godfrey is a 1979 graduate of East Tennessee State University with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Sciences. She is an active member of her professional organization, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, which keeps her abreast in all aspects of her profession. Cindy strives to pass this continuing education to all patients so they can always maintain maximum dental health care. She has been employed at Guthrie Dentistry since 2004.

When Cindy isn’t practicing Dental Hygiene, you will find her traveling to the beach and spending time with her family, friends and pets.

Amber joined our team in 2022, but has been working as a Registered Dental Hygienist since 2015 when she graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from East Tennessee State University. As a Registered Hygienist, Amber focuses on the connection between oral and overall health. She strives to help her patients achieve long term systemic health. 

When she’s not working, Amber enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the great outdoors, traveling and cheering on the Vols. 

Jennifer has been a Dental Assistant since 2000. She graduated from Bristol Tennessee High School.  She completed her dental assisting certification from the Washington County Virginia Dental Assistant program. She holds a CDA and RDA certificates. She has been with our practice since 2012. She is committed to treating patients with the utmost care and compassion.  

Jennifer currently resides in Bristol with her husband Chad, and three boxers, Gracie, Maddie and Kara.

Angelica has been a dental assistant since 2016 and joined our practice in April of 2019. She is a Tennessee High School graduate and resides in Bristol with her family. Her big personality keeps our team and patients smiling and laughing. Angelica enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeremiah and daughters, Neela, Braelyn and Eliana. She also enjoys shopping and taking naps.

Stevie is a 2011 graduate of King College with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a decade of reception experience. She is a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, currently living on the TN side with her husband, Daniel, their son, David, and their two pets. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, painting, and reading. Stevie loves getting know all our patients and welcoming them to our office.  

Yvonne is a Bristol native who joined our practice in December 2018. She has previously worked as both an EMT and a physical therapy tech. In her spare time, Yvonne enjoys spending time with her four sons, her husband and her dog, Milo and cat, Ellie.  

Kristi began working here as a Registered Dental Assistant in 1995.  She chose to  further her education at East Tennessee State University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene in 2010. As a Registered Dental Hygienist, she enjoys getting to know her patients and discussing their dental health goals. Helping patients reach those goals and maintain a healthy smile is important to Kristi.

Outside of dental hygiene, Kristi enjoys sports, being outdoors and spending time with her family and friends.

Melondy grew up in Bristol, where she currently lives with her two kids, Ty and Reagan. She loves University of Tennessee football, concerts, travelling, and watching her kids play sports. Mel joined our practice in 2021 after 18 years at Dr Vance’s office. She is excited to meet all of our Guthrie Dentistry patients while assisting Dr Van, as well as seeing so many familiar faces that loved her when she previously assisted Dr Vance.

Brianna joined the Guthrie Dentistry team in March of 2021 as a Scheduling Coordinator, supported by over 5 years of previous customer service experience. She graduated from East High School and currently lives in Bluff City with her fiance, Dallas, their son, Denver, and one dog, River. Bri enjoys hiking, amusement parks, beauty and fashion, and updating her home’s decor.

Nicole was raised in SW Virginia, and currently resides in Bristol, TN with her husband, Dustin, their 4 children, and 1 dog, Leonard. She enjoys watching her kids play sports, catching up on her Netflix favorites, and is a self proclaimed True Crimes junkie. Nicole joined us in 2021 after 20 years with Dr Vance’s practice.

Dru was born and raised in Hampton, TN where he developed a strong love for both family and sports, especially basketball. He joined our team in 2020 and loves assisting all of the doctors as they make patients’ smiles, and their lives, better. Dru is constantly developing new skills and learning new techniques, and is excited for where his career path will lead.
