Meet Our Dentists
Dr. Rick Guthrie Jr.
Dr. Frederick V. “Rick” Guthrie Jr., is a Bristol native. He is a graduate of Sullivan East High School, received his B.S. from the University of Tennessee, and earned his dental degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1987. He has served the dental needs of the Bristol area for thirty-five years in private practice along with his father, Fred Guthrie, Sr., and now his son, Van Guthrie III, who graduated from the UT College of Dentistry and joined the practice.
At the state level, Dr. Guthrie served as a trustee on numerous councils and committees. Dr. Guthrie was most recently serving as the president of the Tennessee Dental Association through 2016-2017. Dr. Guthrie received the TDA’s most esteemed annual award, the Jack Wells Award in 2023. Nationally, Dr. Guthrie is a member of the American Dental Association, Christian Medical and Dental Association, with fellowships in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy. In addition to the TDA, Dr. Guthrie is President of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry Alumni Board, UT President Advisory Council and Delta Dental of TN Board.
Dr. Guthrie also serves the Healing Hands Health Clinic of Bristol as a charter member and recent facilitator of the UT student rotation partnership. He is active in his church Addilynn Memorial UMC, and various community organizations. One of his passions is the relationship with the dental students and the New Dentist Committee of the TDA. He is a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, where he has served as Scoutmaster for many years and previously served as the East Tennessee Sequoyah Council President.
Rick and his wife, Cindy, reside in Bluff City, TN and are proud of their three children, Dr. Rachel Guthrie, Dr. Van Guthrie, and Ms. Sarah Guthrie, JD, CPA. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with family, grandbabies, and friends and in the outdoors, taking care of their farm.
